Woman's Freedom 1930 - 2030
In this series, created after a trip to New York in the winter of 2022, Hizelaya illustrates the theme of women's freedom, "which radiates to women all over the world," through various techniques discovered through monotype printing on plexiglass.
Women's freedom in relation to men, in relation to a woman's life choices—mother, free woman, or both—and the freedom to choose to be a man or a woman. Hizelaya paints with ink or oil on a sheet of plexiglass, aluminum, or copper. The paint is then pressed onto paper, fabric, or other materials. The artist then works with these effects, adding other materials for a truly mysterious result.
The creation of one image leads to another, and so on. The artist expresses this by saying, "It's a psychophysical commitment, not just a matter of thought." Hizelaya explores the role of women in the 21st century, and the place of the female artist in the 21st century.

Basque Country and Bullfighting
When I arrived in the Basque Country in the 1980s, I was seized by a sudden urge to paint—without really knowing why.
Forty years later, I continue, again and again, to search for that perfect gesture.
The gesture of the pelota players, taut and precise. The gesture of the matadors, fluid and intense.
What matters to me is being in the action, in the movement—where painting becomes an extension of the body and the moment.

« The Relationship » 2025 - 2026 - A Sensualist Approach
We are never built alone. The series The Relationship explores the connections that shape us. Every encounter—romantic, friendly, artistic, familial—leaves its mark on us.
We influence one another, sometimes unknowingly. I see relationships as a slow infusion: an exchange of energy, emotions, and glances. Nothing is fixed. Everything flows. In this series, the act of painting itself becomes a relationship. Between the body and the material. Between what I control and what I allow to emerge.
Between what I give and what I receive.
These paintings speak of interdependence, transmission, and presence. Creating, like loving, is always a shared act.
