Monotypes
Monotype, or printmaking, is a printing process without engraving that produces a unique print.
Hizelaya paints with ink or oil on a plexiglass, aluminum or copper plate.
The paint is then pressed onto paper, a sheet… The artist then works on the effects by adding other materials for a truly mysterious result. Hizelaya became interested in the monotype technique, "the painter's print," when she returned to work under the guidance of a professor at the Beaux-Arts workshops in Paris. She experimented with all the possibilities of monotype, allowing for a wide range of interpretations.
part of it is left to chance. Historian Françoise Claire Prodhon writes, "This undoubtedly foundational moment is one of questioning marked by a return to experimentation, in search of a new impetus."
